FEMALE HORMONES AND MENSTRUATION: DO'S AND DON'TS DURING A PERIOD PHYSICAL EXERCISES: Some women have won world championships during a period, but many tend to feel lethargic and uneasy and should refrain from excessive physical activity. However, there is no need to refrain from your normal daily routine during a period. SEX: Contrary to popular belief, sex is not barred medically during a period, but if the bleeding is excessive, it is messy. Some women enjoy sex more just before and during the first two days of a period. PRONENESS TO INFECTION: As the inner lining of the uterus is discarded it leaves an open wound. Married women especially are more prone to vaginal infections and irritations during periods, if their toilet hygiene is defective or if they fail to clean themselves properly after passing stools or urine. PADS AND TAMPONS: A vast majority of Indian women use pads during menstruation. These should be sterile and frequently changed as the menstrual discharge emanates an unpleasant odour and irritates the delicate skin. Some married women find tampons more convenient. However, a recent report on tampons from the USA states that they can cause a severe bacterial infection in the vagina called 'Toxic Shock Syndrome', and since January 1980, 334 cases and 29 deaths have been reported. *77\262\8* Men's Health-Erectile Dysfunction |
